Shiba Inu Embarks on Utility-Driven Transformation
Shiba Inu is taking a major step towards becoming more than just a meme coin. The project has been quietly building an infrastructure that could potentially make it a useful token in the world of cryptocurrencies.
The center of this pivot is Shibarium, Shiba Inu's Layer-2 network, which allows for faster and cheaper transactions on top of Ethereum. With over 500 million cumulative transactions processed, Shibarium has already shown its capabilities, with gas fees running as low as $0.001 per transaction.
But Shibarium is just the beginning. Shiba Inu is also building a Layer-3 network, known as Shib Alpha Layer, which will further specialize in high-volume use cases like gaming and microtransactions. Additionally, the team is integrating Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) technology through partner Zama, allowing for private transactions that keep data encrypted throughout.
Another key aspect of this transformation is the upgrade to LEASH v2, a token with a fixed supply, which will help address SHIB's own problem of having an uncapped 589 trillion token supply. While these developments are promising, it remains to be seen whether they will be enough to drive organic demand and adoption for SHIB.
