Bitcoin Developer Pushes Network Limits with On-Chain Image Experiment

Bitcoin developer Martin Habovštiak has sparked controversy by encoding a large image onto the Bitcoin blockchain, testing the limits of the network in a bid to push back against supporters of BIP-110.

The proposal, which aims to restrict non-payment-related data in transactions, has been met with resistance from some developers who argue that it would create unnecessary limitations on the network. Habovštiak's experiment shows that these limitations can be bypassed, at least in theory.

Habovštiak's transaction does not use OP_RETURN opcodes and instead employs SegWit v0, which allows for more data to be stored in a single transaction. This approach raises questions about the effectiveness of BIP-110 in achieving its goals.
