Physical Bitcoin Collectible Redeemed for $1.78 Million
A physical Bitcoin collectible from the Casascius series has been redeemed for $1.78 million in cryptocurrency. The collectible was one of the original coins created by Mike Caldwell in 2011 as a proof-of-concept, but has since become highly sought after due to its rarity and value.
Each of these physical Bitcoins contains a private key that is hidden behind a tamper-evident hologram, allowing the owner to access the linked Bitcoin wallet. The coins were originally designed to introduce people to Bitcoin, but have ended up becoming valuable collectibles in their own right.
The value of these physical Bitcoins has increased significantly since their creation, with some even selling for hundreds of dollars on secondary marketplaces like eBay. This latest redemption brings the total number of redeemed Casascius Physical Bitcoins to 236 out of a possible 345 coins.
