Telegram Rebrands TON Token as Gram, Strengthening Its Control Over the Ecosystem
Telegram has announced a significant development in its blockchain project, TON. The token, previously known as Toncoin, is now rebranded as Gram. This move brings back the original name from 2018, when Telegram first introduced the concept of Gram as a cryptocurrency.
The rebranding aims to strengthen Telegram's control over the ecosystem and align with its early blueprint. According to Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, the goal is to bring back what the project first stood for. This shift may also signal a more active role for Telegram in the development of the TON blockchain.
Despite the name change, users will not need to swap their tokens. The network itself remains unchanged, with the same tokenomics and staking mechanisms intact. However, wallets and trading platforms may reflect the new name, Gram, as part of the rollout process.
