Telegram Embeds Crypto Wallet, Paving Way for Tokenized Financial Services
Telegram is taking its messaging app to new heights by integrating a cryptocurrency wallet, dubbed GRAM, which will enable users to store and transfer cryptocurrencies directly within the app. This move is expected to revolutionize the way people interact with digital finance, making it more accessible to over 1 billion users.
The GRAM wallet will allow developers to easily integrate cryptocurrency payment functions into their mini-apps, reducing the need for separate wallet integration procedures. Users can now pay directly with stablecoins within the messenger, expanding the use cases of cryptocurrencies in gaming, content, and shopping.
Telegram's decision to support free cryptocurrency transfers through GRAM is expected to lower transaction costs compared to existing card payment networks. The increased accessibility to various Web3 services, including decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and blockchain games, will also make it easier for users to participate in the Web3 ecosystem.
Industry experts believe that GRAM could expand beyond a simple cryptocurrency transfer function to serve as a gateway to tokenized financial products. Telegram's existing Wallet service supports trading of products that tokenize U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which could lead to an environment where users trade and transfer various tokenized financial assets within a single messenger.
