Cobie Takes Helm at Coinbase's Base App Amid Strategic Pivot
Coinbase has announced a significant leadership change for its Base App, appointing prominent crypto figure Jordan Fish, also known as Cobie, to lead the consumer-facing product. This move follows an announcement by Base creator Jesse Pollak that he will shift his focus towards core development of the Base blockchain.
Fish, who gained recognition from his time on the industry show UpOnly and co-founded the onchain fundraising platform Echo, which was acquired by Coinbase in October 2025 for approximately $375 million. This acquisition marked Fish's entry into the Coinbase ecosystem.
Pollak recently acknowledged that Base's previous emphasis on onchain social media did not achieve expected growth. The team is now narrowing its focus to three primary pillars: trading, payments, and AI agents. Fish confirmed in a statement on X that his responsibilities will encompass the Base App as well as broader trading products across Coinbase's consumer ecosystem.
