Europol Wraps Up International Operation Targeting Criminal Assets
Europol has wrapped up its latest effort to combat financial crimes, concluding the third operational phase of Project A.S.S.E.T. This international initiative focuses on tracing criminal assets and investigating money laundering operations.
The operation took place between May 19-22 at Europol headquarters in The Hague, bringing together law enforcement agencies from 31 countries. More than 40 agencies participated, including Asset Recovery Offices, Financial Intelligence Units, and specialized anti-money laundering teams.
During the operation, investigators identified bank accounts, cryptocurrency wallets, companies, vehicles, and real estate assets allegedly linked to criminal activities. Authorities also located two suspected criminals, with one arrested through the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams.
The operation has generated valuable intelligence on emerging money laundering techniques and cross-border financial structures associated with organized crime networks. Europol officials emphasized that international cooperation and financial intelligence play a crucial role in disrupting these ecosystems and recovering illicit proceeds.
