SEC Targets Crypto Executive Over Alleged $16 Million Insurance Scam
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has brought fraud charges against Donald Basile, a cryptocurrency executive accused of operating a $16 million scheme. According to the agency's complaint, Basile promoted Bitcoin Latinum as a secure investment opportunity by making false claims about insurance coverage.
Basile allegedly told investors that their money was protected by an existing insurance policy, when in fact no such policy existed. The SEC claims this deception was used to lure in investors and make the token appear safer than it really was.
