UAE Investment in Trump Crypto Project Sparks Senate Democrats' Call for Hearing

A group of five U.S. Senate Democrats have requested a hearing to investigate whether a $500 million investment by the UAE in the Trump family's crypto project, WLFI, influenced subsequent policy decisions.

The senators, including Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal, sent a joint letter on June 23 to several Senate committees, citing 'unprecedented in American political history' investment.

The deal, which closed four days before Trump took office, saw UAE officials acquire a 49% stake in WLFI for $500 million. A total of $218 million was prepaid by the Abu Dhabi royal family's representatives to entities related to the Trump family and Middle East Chief Diplomat Steve Witkoff.

The senators pointed out that within months of the agreement, the Trump administration made several decisions favoring the UAE, including approving a $1.4 billion arms sale and establishing an 'Identified Investor Pilot' program.
