Ripple-Ethereum Connection Revealed, Google Warns iPhone Users and Binance Expands Trading Options
A recent revelation from a former Ripple engineer has shed light on the early history of Ethereum and how it was influenced by Ripple's decision to freeze its XRP protocol.
According to Steven Zeiler, who worked at Ripple as a senior software engineer before becoming a developer evangelist at yellow.com, the paths of Ripple and Ethereum's future co-founder Vitalik Buterin crossed in 2013-2014 during the Money 2020 conference in Las Vegas.
Ripple's management decided to freeze the XRP protocol and focus on banking technology, payments, and settlements, pushing smart contracts and decentralized applications into the background. Zeiler believes that this decision led Buterin to launch Ethereum to realize the concept of programmable money that Ripple had abandoned.
