Crypto Firms Force Traditional Exchanges to Go 24/7

The traditional stock exchanges are facing increasing pressure to adapt to the 24/7 trading model adopted by crypto platforms. The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has announced plans to launch a new separate platform for trading that will operate around the clock, starting in the first half of 2027.

The new platform will debut with exchange-traded funds (ETFs) offering exposure to U.S and U.K stocks. According to Julia Hoggett, chief executive of the LSE, the move is aimed at reinforcing London's position as a facilitator of domestic and global flow.

'Increasingly, retail are used to trading when they wish to trade, not simply the hours when markets are open,' she said.

Other traditional exchanges, including Nasdaq, Cboe Global Markets, and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), also plan to launch extended trading or 24/7 access by the end of 2026. The shift is driven by the growing demand for crypto platforms' tokenized stocks, which have hit $8B in monthly transfer volume.
