Bhutan Continues Strategic Bitcoin Liquidation Efforts
Bhutan has continued its efforts to monetize digital assets generated through state-backed mining operations, with the latest sale involving 100 BTC valued at $8.1 million. This move extends a series of sales aimed at optimizing gains from the nation's hydroelectric mining projects.
According to data from blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence, Bhutan has liquidated approximately $230.39 million in Bitcoin since the beginning of 2026, with an average monthly sale of around $50 million. The country's current Bitcoin holdings stand at around 3,100 BTC, valued at approximately $252 million.
Research analyst Lacie Zhang noted that these transfers indicate an active management approach rather than a lack of confidence in the market. She emphasized that the strategy highlights an evolution in how governments perceive digital assets, viewing them as a liquid strategic resource rather than a static reserve.
