FIFA Taps Blockchain for World Cup, With Over $25M in Sales Activity Already Logged

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is gearing up to be one of the biggest sporting events on the planet, and New Jersey's MetLife Stadium will be at the center of it all. Scheduled for July 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM ET, this will be the first time the World Cup final has been held at the venue.

MetLife Stadium won't just host the final, though - it's set to stage eight matches throughout the tournament, making it one of the most heavily utilized stadiums in the competition. The stadium already got a test run last year when it hosted the FIFA Club World Cup final, giving organizers a chance to iron out any logistical issues before the big event.

FIFA has also been working with blockchain technology through its FIFA Collect platform, which runs on the Avalanche network. This platform handles ticketing and digital collectibles, using blockchain-based tickets to combat scalping and fraud. So far, over $25 million in sales activity has been recorded on the platform.
