As the threat of a quantum security breach looms closer, cryptocurrency experts are sounding the alarm on the need for timely upgrades to blockchain technology.

According to Grayscale, new research indicates that Bitcoin's encryption could be compromised faster than anticipated, with attackers potentially exploiting transaction delays to increase their chances of success. The study suggests that the resources required to breach existing cryptographic protections have decreased sharply, leaving millions of coins vulnerable due to publicly exposed keys.

The firm notes that quantum-resistant solutions, such as post-quantum cryptography, are already available and in use in broader digital security contexts. However, their adoption across decentralised systems is hindered by the need for collective decision-making and protocol upgrades.
