US Government Officials Weigh In on Crypto at Consensus Miami
The intersection of cryptocurrency and government was a major topic of discussion at Consensus Miami, with officials from the White House and lawmakers weighing in on key issues.
White House Executive Director of the President's Council on Digital Assets Patrick Witt expressed optimism about the potential signing of the Clarity Act into law by July 4. This would require several milestones to be met, including a markup in the Senate, reconciliation with the House, and the president's signature.
A survey of 1,000 registered voters commissioned by CoinDesk found that while crypto is not a top priority for voters heading into the 2026 midterm election, they do have concerns about senior government officials' ties to crypto business interests. A majority of voters also expressed distrust in the Trump administration's ability to oversee the crypto sector.
The Senate Banking Committee has scheduled a markup hearing on Thursday, which will advance the Clarity Act and bring it one step closer to becoming law.
