However, this growth almost came to a halt between July 6 and July 17, with fewer than 1,900 new holders being added, a tiny fraction of the pace set on that one day.

The sudden spike in holder count has raised questions about its authenticity, with some community analysts pointing to a smart contract from decentralized exchange WoofSwap as a possible culprit.

WoofSwap has described the activity as a 'community experiment' rather than anything misleading. The large majority of SHIB's market cap remains concentrated in a small number of whale wallets, making the slowdown after July 6 more interesting than the spike itself.
