OpenClaw Distances Itself from Crypto Community Amid Token Controversy

OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent framework, has faced controversy recently due to a token incident involving a fake Solana-based token.

The project's account was hijacked during the renaming process, allowing scammers to issue the CLAWD token. At its peak, it had a market capitalization of 16 million USD before plummeting over 90% after the founder denied any association with the token.

Peter Steinberger, the founder of OpenClaw, has emphasized that he would never issue a token and has warned against projects using his name for cryptocurrency-related activities. This statement has led to some community members being removed from the official Discord server for referencing Bitcoin in neutral technical discussions.

Despite this controversy, OpenClaw continues to operate as an independent open-source foundation with Steinberger transitioning to lead the personal agent department at OpenAI.
