Crypto Scam Exposed: Solana Memecoin Linked to Tortoise Hoax

A Solana memecoin linked to a false death report about Jonathan, the 193-year-old tortoise, has raised concerns about the spread of misinformation on social media platforms.

The token, called JONATHAN, surged over 6,000% before declining after being exposed as a scam. The hoax was spread across X and other news outlets before being debunked by officials.

According to reports, the scam began with a post from an account pretending to be veterinarian Joe Hollins, who has cared for Jonathan on Saint Helena, a British territory in the South Atlantic.
