AWS Heats Up: Coinbase Suffers Trading Outage Due to Cloud Infrastructure Issue
Coinbase, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the United States, suffered a significant trading outage lasting over five hours due to an issue with Amazon Web Services (AWS) at its Northern Virginia data center.
The incident occurred when AWS reported an overheating problem in Availability Zone use1-az4 in the US-EAST-1 region. This caused Coinbase's systems to malfunction, preventing users from trading and redirecting them to an AWS error page on the exchange's status page.
During the outage, Coinbase placed all markets into 'Cancel Only' mode, allowing users to cancel existing open orders but not place new ones or trade as usual. The exchange's support team assured users that their funds remained safe throughout the incident.
