Poland's Crypto Regulation Debate Intensifies Ahead of EU Deadline

Poland's parliament is currently engaged in a heated debate over several competing bills related to cryptocurrency regulations. Four proposals have been submitted by different parties, including the government and presidential bills, as well as separate parliamentary proposals from other groups.

The main point of contention between these bills is the level of authority regulators should hold in enforcing crypto-related laws. The government's proposal would grant the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) significant powers to impose fines for obstructing inspections, while President Nawrocki's proposal maintains a lower penalty and different conditions for blocking accounts.

The debate comes as Zondacrypto, one of Poland's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, is at the center of a criminal investigation involving allegations of fraud, money laundering, and political interference. Authorities have received over 1,500 complaints from affected investors with estimated losses reaching at least PLN 350 million.
