Elon Musk Sees Silver Lining in Quantum Crypto Threat
The cryptocurrency industry has been abuzz with concern following a recent research paper published by Google. The study suggests that quantum computing could potentially compromise Bitcoin's cryptography, raising fears about the security of the decentralized network.
However, not everyone is panicking just yet. According to Elon Musk, there may be an unexpected benefit to this breakthrough: the possibility of recovering long-lost Bitcoin passwords. As Musk pointed out, with the increased computational power made possible by quantum computing, it's possible that passwords lost over the years might finally be found.
Not everyone is convinced, however. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao has downplayed the severity of the threat, pointing out that implementing quantum-proof upgrades would be challenging due to the decentralized nature of the cryptocurrency industry. Some projects may not even bother upgrading at all, which could potentially lead to a safer and more secure environment.
Others, however, are more concerned about the potential risks. Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier has emphasized that while no one currently has the quantum hardware to access users' keys, it's only a matter of time before this changes.
