Tyler Commission Rejects Proposed Data Center Amid Environmental Fears
A proposed bitcoin mining data center was rejected by the Tyler commission after community pushback over environmental concerns.
The project, which aimed to build a gas-powered data center on the site of Microsoft UK's headquarters in Thames Valley Park near Reading, raised concerns about its potential negative impact on the environment.
Critics argued that the data center would contribute to climate change and pollution in the area. They also expressed concerns about water usage and the methods used to power the facility.
However, some attendees at a public consultation event supported the proposal, citing the need for faster internet connectivity and the creation of 250 jobs during construction.
