Binance Faces EU Exit Amid Greece's Expected Rejection of MiCA License
Binance's bid to operate in the European Union is set to hit a snag after Greece's Hellenic Capital Market Commission is expected to reject its application for a Markets in Crypto-Assets license.
The decision would effectively bar the exchange from serving customers across all 27 EU member states, as any crypto service provider without proper authorization must stop operating under the EU's regulatory framework, MiCA.
Binance chose Greece as the jurisdiction for its MiCA application in January 2026 due to what it considered an advantageous labor market and security profile. However, Greece has not issued a single MiCA license to any crypto service provider as of June 2026.
The July 1, 2026 deadline marks the end of the transitional period during which exchanges could continue operating under older national rules. After that date, it's MiCA or nothing for Binance and other crypto service providers.
