Wikipedia Co-Founder Predicts Bitcoin Price Crash Below $10,000
Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, has shared his thoughts on the future of Bitcoin. In an X post dated February 25, 2026, he stated that while Bitcoin is robust enough to continue existing in perpetuity, it is not a viable currency or store of value. He believes that its volatility and limited acceptance make it unsuitable for mainstream use.
Wales also expressed his views on the institutional support behind Bitcoin, calling it 'ruthless' investment rather than ideological. He noted that despite some people's predictions that Bitcoin will crash to zero, this is unlikely to happen due to its robust design. However, he does see a potential for it to fall significantly in value.
Bitcoin's current price surge has been significant, rising from below $10,000 in 2020 to around $69,000 at the time of writing. Despite this, Wales' prediction suggests that the cryptocurrency may experience a major downturn in the future. Whether or not his forecast comes true remains to be seen.
