SEC Names New Enforcement Chief Amid Crypto Case Controversy

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has made a key change to its leadership team, appointing David Woodcock as director of its division of enforcement. This move comes as lawmakers continue to scrutinize the agency's handling of crypto-related cases.

Woodcock brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously worked as director of the SEC's Fort Worth office from 2011 to 2015. He will take over from acting director Sam Waldon on May 4.

The SEC has faced criticism for its handling of crypto-related cases, with several lawmakers questioning whether Margaret Ryan, Woodcock's predecessor, left due to pressure from within the agency. Ryan resigned in March amidst controversy surrounding the SEC's decision to drop several enforcement cases.
