Cryptocurrency PACs Spend Heavily Ahead of US Election
Cryptocurrency-backed political action committees (PACs) are making a significant push in US politics ahead of the 2024 election. Two separate arms, Protect Progress and Defend American Jobs, reported $7.2 million in media spending targeting congressional races in Georgia, Alabama, Nebraska, Kentucky, and Texas.
The funds are being used to shape who gets elected and who doesn't, with a focus on crypto-friendly legislation. The CLARITY Act, a digital asset market structure bill, is expected to be a key issue heading into November. Protect Progress has pledged $1.5 million to block Representative Al Green of Texas's return to Congress, calling him hostile to the state's crypto community.
The significant expenditure by these PACs is expected to have a substantial impact on the composition of the next Congress. The stakes are high, with every member of Congress being urged to take a position on crypto as part of their election campaign and platform. Voters will be paying attention to this issue, and it remains to be seen how it will shape the outcome of the 2024 election.
