$1 Billion in Iranian Crypto Seized by US in Pressure Campaign
The United States has made significant progress in its efforts to restrict Iran's financial resources, announcing that it has seized approximately $1 billion worth of cryptocurrency tied to the country.
According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, this action is part of a broader campaign aimed at cutting off funding channels used by Tehran. The effort falls under Operation Economic Fury, an initiative aimed at restricting Iran's access to overseas revenue, banking networks, and digital-asset infrastructure.
Bessent emphasized that the US and its partners are targeting various assets, including those diverted from the Iranian people. He noted that Iranian officials had previously moved hundreds of millions of dollars each month before Treasury intervention.
