Sui's Object-Centric Model Revolutionizes On-Chain Data Processing
Sui's approach to storing data on-chain is distinct from most blockchains. Unlike Ethereum and Solana, which use an account-based model where the ledger tracks balances tied to each wallet address, Sui treats every asset as a unique object with its own ID.
Each object has its own version history and can be owned by one address, shared among multiple users, or marked immutable. This allows Sui to process unrelated transactions in parallel, settling simple transfers in under a second without needing network-wide consensus.
The storage fund pays for data long-term with a fee that's split into a refundable deposit and a non-refundable portion. Up to 99% of the refundable share returns to whoever deleted or shrunk the object, incentivizing validators to store data securely in the future.
