Thailand Seizes 315 Crypto Miners in Power Theft Crackdown
Thai authorities cracked down on cryptocurrency mining operations in five northeastern provinces, seizing 315 machines in raids across 14 locations. The operation targeted sites suspected of using illegal power connections and tampering with electricity meters to reduce costs associated with cryptocurrency mining.
The seized machines were connected to approximately 40.38 million Thai baht in electricity losses, comprising 5.38 million Thai baht in electricity violation fines and about 35 million Thai baht in unpaid power bills.
Cryptocurrency mining involves using specialized computers to validate blockchain transactions and earn digital asset rewards, with electricity costs often representing the largest operating expense for mining businesses.
