The UK Gambling Commission is weighing the potential benefits of allowing licensed betting operators to accept cryptocurrency payments.

According to regulatory officials, there has been a significant increase in consumer demand for crypto payments in the UK, with some punters turning to unlicensed sites when they cannot find licensed operators that accept their preferred payment method.

The Commission's executive director, Tim Miller, noted that 'crypto is one of the two biggest searches' leading British gamblers to illegal operators. In response, the regulator has asked its Industry Forum to explore how crypto payments could be introduced in line with licensing objectives and regulatory requirements.
