Cardano Wallet Hack: SecondFi Exposes Millions to Risk
The Cardano ecosystem has been dealt a significant blow after SecondFi, an EMURGO-backed wallet platform, disclosed a critical security flaw in its native web wallet-generation software. The incident occurred on June 23, and estimates of losses are still climbing.
According to SlowMist, a blockchain security firm, the total affected could be as high as 129 million ADA, with users likely losing over $20 million. This is significantly higher than SecondFi's preliminary estimate of 16 million ADA, which would translate to around $2.4 million at current prices.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson described the incident as 'the unfortunate reality of crypto.' He acknowledged that the losses may seem small compared to other hacks but said it brings no comfort.
