West Lafayette Couple Loses Hundreds of Thousands in Cryptocurrency Scam

A West Lafayette couple has fallen victim to a cryptocurrency scam after being targeted by an individual claiming to be an Indian police agent.

The elderly couple, who recently returned from a trip to India, reported that they received multiple calls from the scammer, who claimed that they were under investigation and needed to send money via cryptocurrency to resolve the issue.

However, West Lafayette police have confirmed that law enforcement officials do not make such calls, and any unsolicited requests for payment should be treated as suspicious.

According to Lt. Jon Eager of the West Lafayette Police Department, officers do not call targets of an investigation unless it is near the end of the case, and even then, they would never ask for money to resolve the issue.

The couple reportedly sent cryptocurrency to the scammer on multiple occasions, ultimately losing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Authorities are urging residents to be cautious and report any suspicious calls to local police.
