Zimbabwe Cracks Down on Crypto with Registration Requirements
The Zimbabwean government has introduced regulations for the cryptocurrency industry, requiring businesses to register and pay annual licensing fees.
The new rules, issued by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, will cost companies $500 per year to register with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the country's anti-money laundering agency. Companies that fail to comply risk penalties for operating without registration, which has now been declared an offence.
The regulations are expected to create a clearer operating environment for crypto businesses and allow authorities to monitor transactions more effectively and combat financial crimes such as money laundering.
