Coinbase Embarks on Restructuring Effort with 700 Job Cuts
Coinbase's latest move to revamp its operations involves a significant reduction in workforce. The company plans to eliminate around 700 positions, roughly 14% of its global staff, as part of its restructuring efforts.
According to a regulatory filing, the layoffs are calculated based on workforce figures from May 1, with most of the cuts expected to be completed during the second quarter. This move is aimed at slashing costs and shifting the crypto exchange towards an AI-centric model.
Coinbase's CEO Brian Armstrong pointed out that artificial intelligence can help small teams accomplish more by automating processes and writing code. He emphasized that AI will enable teams to handle jobs that previously required a larger workforce, thereby reducing costs.
