Meta Enters Crypto Payments Space with USDC Creator Payouts

Meta has taken a significant step into the world of cryptocurrency payments by launching a program to pay select creators in USDC stablecoin on Solana and Polygon.

The program, which was quietly updated on Meta's support page, allows eligible creators in Colombia and the Philippines to receive earnings in Circle's USDC directly via their MetaMask, Phantom, or Binance wallet.

Stripe handles the backend and provides tax reporting for the transactions. Meta emphasized that it is not issuing its own stablecoin, but rather using Circle's existing USDC, which has a market cap exceeding $77 billion.

The move marks a reversal of Meta's previous stance on cryptocurrency payments, with Libra being launched in 2019 and shut down entirely in 2022 after regulators blocked every path to launch.
