Pennsylvania Power Plant Aims to Become AI Data Center Campus

The Scrubgrass power plant in Pennsylvania is on track to become one of the largest AI data center campuses in the region. Keel Infrastructure, a digital infrastructure and energy company, has identified the site as its 'largest long-term development opportunity.'

Located near Kennerdell, the 650-acre campus currently hosts bitcoin mining operations that utilize waste coal power. However, Keel is now positioning Scrubgrass as a future AI data center campus with massive power potential.

The company has access to 63 megawatts of power at the site and is exploring options for additional capacity up to 1,363 megawatts. Keel's filings also mention pre-engineering studies with natural gas transporters to evaluate the possibility of delivering gas to the site for an on-site generation facility.

The development plans are still in their early stages, but Keel has set a target timeline of around 2028 for implementing additional power at the site. The company's shift towards AI data centers aligns with its recent rebranding and acquisition of Stronghold Digital Mining, which brought Scrubgrass into its portfolio.
