UK Crypto Advocates Push Back Against Bank Restrictions
The Stand With Crypto group has announced the launch of a campaign against banks blocking transfers to cryptocurrency exchanges in the UK.
The campaign, which is backed by over 286,000 members, aims to challenge these restrictions through a tool on its website. This tool generates letters that can be sent to banks, urging them to reconsider their policies on transferring funds to regulated exchanges.
A recent report from the UK Cryptoassets Business Council found that 40% of crypto transactions are restricted by UK banks. The group argues that many of these restrictions do not take into account individual customer risk profiles and apply broadly across the sector.
The campaign's focus on challenging bank transfer restrictions comes amid ongoing efforts to develop a framework for stablecoins in the UK. Regulators have been reviewing proposed rules, including caps on stablecoin holdings and reserve requirements, with the goal of supporting the growth of a domestic stablecoin market while minimizing potential risks.
