Global Crypto Crackdown Yields Over 5,800 Arrests and $293 Million Seized

Global law enforcement agencies have made significant strides in combating crypto-related fraud and money laundering. Operation First Light 2026, a four-month operation across 97 countries and territories, resulted in over 5,811 arrests and the interception of $293 million in illicit assets.

Thai police arrested two individuals suspected of laundering romance-scam proceeds through cryptocurrency, using cross-chain swaps to hide the trail. One suspect, aged 20, controlled a wallet that processed more than $122.5 million in just 10 months.

Interpol identified over 142,000 victims and blocked more than 31,000 bank accounts, utilizing its I-GRIP stop-payment tool to track flows of fiat and virtual assets.
