Banca Sella Paves Way for Italian Banks in Crypto Services
Banca Sella is making significant strides in the crypto landscape by becoming the first Italian bank to offer cryptocurrency-related services under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation. The bank has successfully completed its notification process with the Bank of Italy and is gearing up to launch digital asset custody and transfer services by end-2026.
The initial services will focus on custody, receipt, and transfer of digital assets, targeting specific client groups rather than the broader customer base. Banca Sella's approach appears directed toward corporate and institutional clients.
The bank has been working on digital asset infrastructure for several years and has participated in various innovation programs, including the Bank of Italy's Fintech Milano Hub experimentation program. Its experience with Fireblocks technology has enabled it to test crypto custody services internally.
