White House Issues Dual Executive Orders on Quantum Computing: Advancing and Defending
The White House has issued two executive orders aimed at advancing America's quantum computing capabilities while fortifying federal infrastructure against potential cyber threats.
Executive Order 14411 establishes the QC-ADDS program, which aims to construct powerful quantum computing systems capable of initiating a new era of scientific discovery. The Pentagon is tasked with fielding operational quantum sensing technologies by September 2028.
The order also emphasizes workforce development initiatives and domestic supply chain strengthening.
Executive Order 14409 tackles encryption vulnerabilities that emerge as quantum computing advances, requiring federal departments to transition to quantum-resistant cryptographic protocols for key exchange operations by December 2030.
