Explosions shook Sirik county in Iran's southern Hormozgan Province on Monday evening, adding to already high geopolitical tensions that have crypto markets on edge.
No official statements from Iranian authorities have been released, and no casualty figures are available. The cause of the blasts remains unknown, but they occurred in a strategically significant region along the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of the world's oil supply passes daily.
Sirik county is not well-known globally, but its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz makes any security incident there worth paying attention to. The region has witnessed sporadic unexplained explosions at various military, industrial, or energy facilities over the years, often during periods of heightened regional tensions.
