EU Bans Interactions with Russian Crypto Services in Bid to Bypass Sanctions

The European Union has taken a significant step in its efforts to restrict Russia's access to international transactions by banning interactions with Russian crypto services.

The 20th sanctions package, adopted in April 2026, includes a total ban on interactions with Russian crypto exchanges and decentralized platforms (DEX) that facilitate off-the-radar regulatory exchanges.

The ban also targets stablecoins tied to the rouble, such as RUBx, which are no longer allowed within the European Union. The digital rouble, still in development, is also subject to a preemptive ban.
