US House Committee Prepares Cryptocurrency Tax Legislation
The US House Ways and Means Committee is taking steps to clarify the tax treatment of cryptocurrencies.
According to reports, the committee has been working with the Treasury Department to develop legislation that would provide a framework for taxing digital assets.
The proposed bill is expected to address issues such as the timing of taxation on mined or staked tokens and exempting certain stablecoin transactions from capital gains tax.
Additionally, the legislation may include provisions to ensure equal treatment of digital assets and securities for tax purposes, as well as a safe harbor for foreign investors trading US securities.
