US Men's Soccer Team Advances to Knockout Rounds as Crypto Returns to World Cup Sponsorships
The US Men's National Soccer Team has made history by advancing to the knockout rounds of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as group winners. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the team, which hadn't strung together back-to-back World Cup victories since 1930.
In Group D, the USMNT dominated with a 4-1 win over Paraguay on June 12 and a clean 2-0 victory against Australia on June 19. Although they suffered a 3-2 loss to Turkey on June 25, it didn't affect their chances of advancing due to the tournament format.
The expanded format allows the top two teams from each group to advance automatically, along with the eight best third-place finishers. By topping Group D, the US earned a more favorable draw in the Round of 32, where they'll face Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The integration of crypto into mainstream sports sponsorships has resumed with FIFA partnering with Kraken as the official crypto supporter of the 2026 World Cup. This collaboration aims to engage fans through crypto-related activations throughout North America and Europe during the tournament.
