Korean Tax Authority Faces Criticism Over Cryptocurrency Security Incident
The National Tax Service (NTS) of South Korea recently experienced a major security lapse that compromised its handling of cryptocurrency assets.
During an official press release, the agency inadvertently published unredacted photos containing seed phrases for cryptocurrency wallets. Within hours, unidentified individuals exploited this information to transfer 4 million Ethereum tokens from seized wallets, valued at approximately 4.8 million dollars.
The tokens were later returned to their original wallet address, but not before the incident revealed significant operational security vulnerabilities in the government's management of self-custodied digital assets.
