Coinbase Base Sees Surge in Agentic Commerce Activity
Coinbase's Base network has become a hotspot for agentic commerce, with AI agents processing over $43M in transactions on the x402 protocol. This surge in activity reflects the increasing complexity of tasks undertaken by autonomous agents, which are now using blockchain rails to purchase services such as web search results, real-time market data, and cloud browser sessions.
The growth of agent capabilities and financial infrastructure is accelerating, with wallet integration becoming easier and transaction fees dropping to sub-cent levels. This has made microtransactions practical at scale, enabling agents to pay for inference, live search, and other services in fractions of a cent.
While the agentic economy is still in its early stages, some agents are already earning revenue, with Felix reporting over $261,395 in revenue from agent-run products. As the number of earning agents grows, it may signal the next stage of the agentic economy.
