Crypto.com Expands Global Payment Capabilities with South Korea Partnership

Crypto.com has made a notable move in the global payment market by partnering with KG Inicis, a leading payment platform in South Korea. The partnership aims to provide tourists visiting South Korea with a seamless and convenient way to make payments using cryptocurrencies.

The integration of Crypto.com Pay into South Korea's largest payment gateway network is expected to reduce reliance on currency conversions, lower fees, and settlement times. This will not only benefit tourists but also boost inbound tourism in the country.

According to Joel Hugentobler, a Cryptocurrency Analyst at Javelin Strategy & Research, this partnership is significant as it enables faster and cheaper cross-border transactions. He noted that for Crypto.com to be successful, they need to ensure smooth and seamless point-of-sale integration and user experience, in addition to working with regulators.

The use of stablecoins is expected to be more prevalent than typical cryptocurrencies in this context, as merchants will receive payments immediately in the local currency (KRW). This removes volatility on the backend, making it a more secure option for both tourists and merchants.
