Trump Urged Not to Grant Clemency to Sam Bankman-Fried Amid Crypto Policy Talks
Two US Senators have urged President Donald Trump not to grant executive clemency to Sam Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of FTX and Alameda Research. Sens. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) and Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) introduced a Senate resolution stating that 'under no circumstances should Samuel Bankman-Fried receive executive clemency.'
The move comes after Trump pardoned several figures linked to the crypto industry, including dark web marketplace operator Ross Ulbricht and former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao. Lummis said that Bankman-Fried's conviction and sentencing process 'should end any serious push for clemency'.
The resolution has implications for ongoing negotiations on broader crypto market structure legislation. The FTX collapse remains a central reference point in Washington's crypto debate, with supporters arguing that clearer rules could help prevent another major failure.
