Trump Meets with Coinbase CEO Amid Cryptocurrency Policy Debates

US President Donald Trump's administration has been working to advance cryptocurrency-friendly policies in the country. A recent development in this effort is a private meeting between Trump and Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, one of the leading crypto exchanges.

The meeting took place at the White House on Tuesday, according to reports. Hours after the meeting, Trump issued a statement on social media platform Truth Social, urging banks to support legislation that would benefit the crypto industry.

Two key pieces of legislation mentioned in Trump's statement are the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act. The GENIUS Act aims to promote innovation in digital assets, while the CLARITY Act seeks to establish a comprehensive federal framework for digital asset market structure and clarify jurisdictional boundaries between regulatory agencies.

However, banks have been pushing for amendments to these bills that would ban stablecoin yields, which they claim is necessary to prevent deposit flight. Crypto companies, on the other hand, argue that such a ban unfairly targets them and would harm consumers.
