The Stellar Development Foundation has released its Quantum Preparedness Plan, outlining a phased roadmap to migrate the network to quantum-safe cryptography by 2027. This plan is in response to the growing threat of quantum computers, which could potentially break current encryption methods.
The plan focuses on two core risks: validator signatures and account takeover. The latter is considered more difficult to address, as it involves deriving a private key directly from a public one. The foundation has identified that thousands of dormant accounts on the network may be vulnerable to this type of attack.
